First HungryHammer and now Lincolnbidz is under DDOS Attack. They have posted a message on their homepage saying
“Oops!! Somebody broke Linky! We are looking into ANOTHER DDoS ATTACK!!!!!”
It is strange as normally famous websites are targeted by BAD Guys for DDOS attack shuch as Twitter . Lincolnbidz is still using BETA version. Its hard to digest that someone will waste his/her resources and time to attack a website which is still a baby and learning how to walk.
A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users.
check out this video explaining what is DDOS
We have received an email from HungryHammer regarding the latest situation on their website which was the victim of a malicious DDoS attack recently. Contents of the email are as follows:
Hi,
Cool new site!!
Just to let you know as we always do with PAW that HungryHammer.com has AGAIN been subjected to a DDOS attack this time taking down all it’s servers!
The DDOS originated from Cupertino, CA which if you do your research is the location of a very well known Penny Auction website!
Coincidence? Not sure yet.
We’re working on getting it back up and running but it means that we have had to completely shut down the site and take the server offline as the DDOS attacks just kept coming. You’ll just get a blank white page at the moment whist we fix it.
Unbelievable that it’s not the people out there that are nasty but in fact it seems to me that competitors play dodgy tricks and think they can get away with it.
We’re working with other sites and the FBI at present over the DDOS attacks and hope to be able to get back up and running ASAP.
Thanks
Lets hope that HungryHammer find the culprits for this nasty piece of work and are up and running again soon.
This incident has only highlighted the need for website owners to implement robust security to protect their websites from would be predators. We would welcome any thoughts from members, whether you have been victims yourself of such attacks, suggestions on what security measures can be implemented or indeed anything on the subject of DDoS attacks.
